The Catalan Higher School of Music (Escola Superior de Musica de Catalunya, ESMUC) — is the only institution of this kind, situated in the northernmost Spanish province presenting higher musical education providing its graduates with diplomas of universitarian type. This cultural centre has been established to reflect all the diversity of musical life in Catalonia, positioning music not only as professional but also important social phenomenon. 600 students have to study varied specialities e.g. playing on antique and modern, as well as on national instruments, jazz, conducting, musicology, pedagogies, composition, sinology, management. |
