T he Ensemble “Terem Quartet”
was founded by students and
graduates of the St. Petersburg Conservatoire.
In 20 years it has produced
more than 2000 concerts, performed in
55 countries worldwide, and recorded
15 CDs.
The repertoire includes classics,
from Bach to Piazzolla, Nino Rota and R. Shchedrin, arranged by the
members themselves as well as more than 200 original compositions.
The musicians make bold experiments with genres and styles,
converting the form of academic concert into joyful skittish play
appealing to the genetic conscience of people, and their specific
humor. They use different musical traditions such as folklore, jazz,
classical music. The interpretations are also frequently unexpected
and provocative.
The Ensemble was a prize-winner at the XIII International Festival
of Youth and Students in Pyongyang, North Korea, of Golden Ostap
Prize (nomination: humour in music), and the Company of the Year
title. The solo concerts of the Ensemble were confirmed as the best
at Edinburgh Festival (The Scotsman).
